Orange UK for France

without comments

The provider’s PAYG customers will be able to top-up while being in France and thus lowering their roaming costs.

orangeThe fruity operator presented a new deal for pay as you go customers that travel for business or pleasure to France.  The offer gives any Orange UK pay as you go SIM card owner a possibility to get a top-up in France for €39.99 (ca. £34). Such top-up will give an allowance of 120 minutes, 1000 texts and 1GB of data to be used in France or when calling the rest of the world. However, you only have 14 days to use it up. Should this be not enough, you can obtain an additional top-up for €30 (ca. £25) which will give you the same allowance as the previous one.

The top-ups will be widely available in France as you will be able to get them in Orange stores, supermarkets, petrol stations and newsagents all over the country.

Definitely it is a step forward to minimizing the costs incurred due to roaming fees, but still the top-up value seems a bit high for the allowance offered. Nevertheless, at least Orange UK pay as you go users will not have to worry about the state of their PAYG accounts while in France, because they will always have an opportunity to top it up virtually anywhere.

Orange smartphone

San Diego, a new Orange-branded smartphone, has been on the British shelves since June 6. However, this phone is not a cheap low-end one like it is usually the case with brand phones. San Diego, previously known as Santa Clara, features a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom processor, an 8-megapixel camera, a 4.03-inch touch screen and HSPA+ compatibility. It also has quick links to most useful Orange applications including Orange Wednesdays, Your Orange and Orange Gestures. The biggest innovation but also a major drawback is San Diego’s processor made by Intel. It is Intel’s first attempt at providing hardware for smartphones, and because of it is not fully compatible with Android OS. About 30 per cent of apps on Android Market will not work with Atom x86 chip.

To get San Diego you may choose to buy it with a PAYG SIM card or with a monthly contract. The first option means that you will have to pay £199.99 and top-up your pay as you go SIM card with £10. You will also get 250MB a month for a period of 12 months to enjoy smartphone functionality. If you choose to sign a contract the phone will be yours for £15.50 per month. It is a 24-month-long contract in which customers get 50 minutes and 50 texts to any network plus 100MB of data allowance.

Orange UK raises its PAYG rates

Orange PAYG customers have suffered a major blow as the operator announced that the PAYG rates will change from the 1st of July, 2011. PAYG SIM card owners will have to pay more for calling and texting. The changes affect the Dolphin, Monkey and Canary plans. Customer will have to pay 25p instead of 20p per minute and 12p instead of 10p for text message.  Recently Orange has given their Dolphin and Monkey customers free text messages for £10 top-ups, but this move doesn’t compensate the up-coming PAYG rates increase.
