The Mobile World Congress 2011 has brought a variety of inventions that may see mobile phones develop into interesting directions.
However, one of the most flashy and imaginative devices was presented by Materimage 3D, an American 3D technology company. They demonstrated a 3D user interface that enables phones to display 3D holograms. Users can interact with holograms to text, browse the Internet, take pictures or watch 3D movies. It may be a start of new trend to produce 3D mobile phone applications both for gaming and business. Roy Taylor from Masterimage 3D said that while 3D user interfaces are in their early days, a holographic chess game from “Star Wars” may soon be a reality.
Two designers from the Metatrend Institute presented an amazing concept phone. While the mobile phone itself looks like a standard sleek mobile from 2010, it has a charging dock that makes it float in the air.
The phone is charging wirelessly while hovering in the air, but it starts moving whenever you get a text message or incoming call. It will spin around and thanks to so called “after-image effect” the screen of the phone will seem to be in 3D. As it is still only a concept, there is no information when such a mobile phone will be produced.
