ASDA Mobile is another MVNO that has been created by a supermarket chain, in this case
ASDA Stores Ltd. The company is a subsidiary of Wal-Mart, an American retailer. ASDA
Mobile began to operate in April 2007. ASDA uses the infrastructure of Vodafone which gives its customers around 99% mobile coverage in the UK. This MVNO focuses only on Pay As You Go (PAYG) SIM cards and offers a SIM-only or SIM and phone deals. Its characteristic feature is a flat rate for minutes and text messages in the UK. Customers can add one of three bundles to ASDA’s standard tariff, which give unlimited texts and additional call time and data.
ASDA has won the Best PAYG mobile network award three times in a row (2010, 2011 and 2012).
