O2 has announced that from November 22 it will offer their customers a new pay as you go O2 International SIM card. The SIM comes with some new international call rates, which in many cases are greatly lowered. For example, calling to China or India will cost 1p per minute both for landline and mobile numbers, while calls to Pakistan will be at 4p per minute and 2p per minute is the rate for calling Americans. There are no hidden costs like connection fees or call duration limits, which gives O2 significant advantage over other mobile operators which provide cheap international calls from mobiles.
Additionally, if you top-up for at least £10 you will also be eligible for Unlimited UK texts to O2. But if you top-up for £15 or more at once on top of getting free text messages to O2, you will also have Unlimited UK calls to O2 customers. These offers are valid for one month from the day you topped up the required amounts, and are renewable each month as long as you top-up your O2 PAYG SIM card.
This new tariff will be available to all new customers and existing Pay & Go customers with the O2 Unlimited tariff, as the new rate will be automatically applied to them on November 22.
Sally Cowdry from O2 said that these new international rates for PAYG SIM card owners are introduced as the operator recognizes that so many O2 customers regularly talk on their phone internationally. She explains that this is the reason why they offer calling card rates for international calls.
